And now for something completely different

A short six year hiatus since my last post.  ConforMIS, antecedent to Imaging Therapeutics, which was a re-formation of our original company OsteoNet, went public this year. Double whoo-hoo.

Has it been a year already? Two years? Oh well.

I'm back. I can't believe I forgot to update this prolific blog last year.

MaMoCa has been acquired, by the Motion Analysis Corporation. Yeee - hah.

Another year, another post

I don't know if I am going to be able to keep up this break-neck posting pace but I'll do my best for all of my dedicated readers.

I'm very happy to say that I have had some good success with my company MaMoCa. After winning the Tech Coast Venture Network Survivor Competition in 2006 we really picked up some steam and landed a seed round of angel funding, from some individual investors and from the Tech Coast Angels. I really appreciate their confidence. We received some press attention, from the Voice of Southern California Entrepeneurship Frank Peters and from Colin Stewart of the Orange County Register.

We made some significant progress on our prototype system, you can see a little about it here at vator.tv . I am happy to say that our investors were so happy with our success that we negotiated and closed a second round of funding, enough to get us through to our expected VC round in the spring.

We also have some fantastic news on the personal front, but I think I will save that for another post.

Funding

The level of diligence displayed in maintaining this blog must be seen to be believed.

This year was quite different from last, mostly fundraising. Not the ‘fabulous fun’ of developing an elegant solution to a complex engineering problem, but very interesting nonetheless. I spent most of the year pitching the startup; to friends and family, angels, angel groups, and VCs. When I wasn’t pitching I was at networking events, listening and talking, adjusting, tuning. I met some great people, some sharp contractors to help with the technical development and some smart business people to help build the company.

I had some success and accepted a financing offer a few weeks ago. Onward.

Startup 2

The startup in the previous post refers to starting the blog. As you can see I've been diligent in posting. The startup of this post refers to what I've been doing for the past year. A startup, tech, with a focus on entertainment applications.

I should first say how amazing, freeing, fantastic in so many ways it has been to take this personal sabbatical. Having time with my wife, with my family, with her family. Having the time to spend building our family. Having the time to think about what you really want to spend your time doing, and how to realistically set things up to make a living doing that.

For me, a tech startup was the answer and that's what I've been doing. Having time to think, shedding pre-conceptions, contemplating the goal from every imaginable aspect before having to think about how to achieve the goal. And then really understanding the problem and seeing solutions. What a fabulously fun year it's been.

Startup

Just a few lines on coming in from an extended lurk, more than three years. I have written a few things and BlackFive was kind enough to post them for me. I then very craftily emailed the big pointer and got the desired links. I will be posting a few ideas and discussing the world, maybe.
